The Adamawa State Government has confirmed a cholera outbreak that has claimed 12 lives. The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, in a statement delivered in Yola on Sunday. Tangwami reported that out of 50 suspected cases, 30 were confirmed to be positive for cholera. Six of the fatalities occurred in hospitals, while the remaining six died at home. So far, 308 people have been admitted for treatment, with 244 having been discharged.
“We received confirmation from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that 30 of the samples tested positive for cholera,” said Tangwami.
He urged the public to remain cautious about their hygiene, movements, and water sources. Tangwami assured the community that the government is working diligently to manage the outbreak and asked for the cooperation of residents in health awareness efforts.
“We seek continued prayers and support as we strive to contain this outbreak,” he added.
