“Bobrisky’s Safety at Stake—He Has Female Features” – Kirikiri Prison Deputy Controller

In a startling revelation, the Deputy Controller of Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison has explained why popular figure Bobrisky has not been placed in the general cell population. He stated, “We didn’t put Bobrisky inside General Cell Population because he has female features. If we had put him in the General Cell with the rest of the inmates, they would have kpaied Bobrisky overnight.” This statement has sparked intense discussions about safety, gender identity, and prison conditions in Nigeria.

Kirikiri Prison, located in Lagos State, is notorious for its overcrowded conditions and the presence of hardened criminals, including those convicted of serious offenses such as rape and sodomy. The Deputy Controller’s comments highlight concerns regarding the safety of inmates who do not conform to traditional gender norms within such an environment.

Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison is infamous for its overcrowding and inadequate facilities. Originally built to house 1,056 inmates, it often holds far more than its capacity allows. Reports indicate that many inmates are awaiting trial, leading to a backlog that exacerbates the already dire conditions. The prison’s environment can be harsh, with limited access to basic needs and a lack of rehabilitation programs.
