The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially announced an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000. This significant adjustment will take effect from July 2024, aligning with the recent enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, confirmed this development in a statement released on September 25, 2024. The announcement follows advocacy efforts by the NYSC leadership, including a visit by Director General Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed to discuss welfare improvements with the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.
This increase is expected to provide much-needed financial support to corps members and enhance their overall morale during their service. The NYSC leadership expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely gesture, which aims to motivate young Nigerians in their national service roles.
