Prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has firmly denied any association with controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky. This declaration follows allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who claimed in a viral audio that Bobrisky bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against her.
In the audio recording, Bobrisky purportedly mentioned that her “godfather,” along with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, facilitated her serving a six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison. VeryDarkMan further alleged that Falana sought a presidential pardon for Bobrisky in exchange for ₦10 million.
However, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Falana categorically refuted these claims, stating that he has never met or spoken to Bobrisky. He emphasized that he has assisted over 280 individuals in obtaining pardons without ever demanding payment.
In response to the derogatory remarks made by VeryDarkMan, Falana’s legal team issued a letter demanding an immediate retraction and public apology for the defamatory statements. The letter described the allegations as “vicious, wicked, and reckless,” aimed at tarnishing Falana’s reputation.
Falana clarified, “Bobrisky never spoke to me; I have never met him. He was alleged to have spoken to my son Folarin (Falz).” He recounted an incident where Bobrisky asked his son for financial assistance while in prison but was advised against attempting to bribe prison officials.
