Governor Umo Eno has shed light on his decision to appoint his first daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, as the Coordinator of the office of the First Lady following the untimely passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Addressing a congregation at the National combined worship service of All Nations Christian Ministry International on Sunday, Governor Eno expressed the importance of continuing the work initiated by his late wife. He explained that his daughter would take on the role of overseeing the programmes championed by the former First Lady, including the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) and the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly.
“Our daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, will coordinate the office of the First Lady. First Ladies are not appointed; they come with the Governor, and she had been with her mother from the beginning,” Eno stated.
The Governor emphasized that his wife’s legacy would live on through the initiatives she spearheaded, ensuring that they remain active for the benefit of the state’s women and elderly. By appointment, Mrs. Obareki will serve as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor and Coordinator of the First Lady’s office.
Governor Eno concluded by saying, “Let the office keep running. I’ll be comforted.”
