President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that his government is making significant progress in addressing the nation’s security challenges. He highlighted that within a year, the administration has neutralized over 300 commanders of Boko Haram and bandit groups.
In his October 1st Independence Day address, President Tinubu remarked: “My administration assumed office 16 months ago at a crucial time the economy faced major challenges, and our security situation was severely compromised. We stood at a pivotal moment, forced to choose between implementing reforms for progress or maintaining the status quo, which would lead to failure. We chose to reform both our political economy and our defense strategy. In terms of security, I am pleased to inform you, my fellow citizens, that we are succeeding in the fight against terrorism and banditry. Our objective is to eliminate all threats posed by Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and violent extremism. Over the past year, our forces have rapidly eliminated Boko Haram and bandit commanders, with over 300 of them neutralized by our brave troops in the Northeast, Northwest, and other regions of the country.”
